Bangalore firm's CSR to solve employability skill gap in India?
By Suman Ravikumar, SiliconIndia
Bangalore: There is severe employability skill gap in many countries and hence, companies have begun luring talent through different initiatives including CSR activities.

As a part of their CSR initiative, a Bangalore based Societe Generale Solution Centre(SG GSC) has expressed interests in training the students of India, thus solving the most talked about issue of employability skill gap. They may also provide opportunities to those students in France.

SG GSC, a subsidiary of the France based Societe Generale Group, has launched a unique scholarship program - 'SG GSC India Talent Scholarship', as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative to promote professional education for students with financial constraints.

Students with financial difficulties have been selected to renowned Indian professional institutes/ universities. For This academic year, SG GSC has offered scholarships to 11 students from Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore; Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode; and International Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore.

As part of this unique scholarship program, SG GSC will sponsor the fee for the complete term/duration of the course; including tuition, boarding and lodging. The thought behind this initiative is that the students should focus entirely on their studies and should not be burdened about repayment of the education loan.

Furthermore, SG GSC will assign a dedicated mentor from their senior leadership team, who will maintain regular contact with the student, acting as a 'friend, philosopher and guide'. The mentor will guide, coach and motivate the student to succeed, honing their soft skills, and monitoring their progress. The mentor will also provide avenues for the student in various SG Group and SG GSC initiatives.

Nippi Kochhar, CEO of SG GSC said "India has tremendous intellectual capital which doesn't surface in view of lack of the ability of the individual to afford exposure through good renowned Indian Institutes. It is SG GSC's attempt to make this possible for few highly deserving students through financial assistance".

As we all know employability skill is the talk of the town in all countries. In fact, in most of the national conferences that takes place, employability skill is one of the major topics that are discussed. Countries have taken initiatives like mobilizing skills from one country to another and by removing language barriers to welcome one and all.
